Bring your retainers to each appointment!!!!
-At the completion of the active phase of your orthodontic treatment, you begin the period we call retention. If we did not make an effort to retain the teeth following the orthodontic movement, they would tend to move back to their original position.
-Wear your retainers sleep time unless instructed otherwise by Dr. Jones and or Dr. DeShon. To clean your retainers, you may use a wet toothbrush.
-The retainers may seem awkward in your mouth for a few days and speech may seem difficult, but you will quickly become accustomed to them.
-The safest place for your retainer is in your mouth or in your plastic container put away. Your retainer should not leave your house unless you are coming for an appointment with us.
-DON’T leave it in a hot place such as the glove compartment or in direct sunlight – it will melt.
-DON’T leave it around the house, remember youngsters and pets can be curious.
-DO put it in the plastic container we provided.
-ALWAYS bring your retainer to each appointment.
-If your retainer should become lost or broken, please notify our office immediately so that we can replace it as soon as possible. Should this become necessary, we will place additional charges of $_____to replace each retainer or $_____ to repair each retainer. These charges are only to cover some of our costs for replacing or repairing the retainers.
– If you have any scars on your teeth from improper brushing, you should continue to use a fluoride rinse daily. The best way to use a fluoride rinse is, after brushing thoroughly, rinse with the fluoride for one minute, then do not rinse out with water and do not have anything to eat or drink for an hour or longer. Bedtime would be a good time to do this.
-We will advise you about your wisdom teeth before we finally let you go. Sometimes we like to leave the wisdom teeth for a while to help us with retention of your teeth. PLEASE LET US HELP MAKE THAT DECISION!
-If you have an accident involving changes in your teeth, please come in.
-After 2-3 years of sleep time wear, it is best to continue to wear your retainers at least once a week at night.
-We want you to be totally satisfied with what we have done for you. Please wear your retainers as instructed to prevent unwanted tooth movements.
